Last night on?The X Factor Live Show #2, the Top Finalists performed, and the theme of the night was "Diva"! Find out more in the Kidzworld Recap of Season 2, Episode 16 which aired November 14th, 2012.
Daring Divas
The theme of last night's show was "Diva"! And like a true bunch of divas, each contestant brought an emotional element to their performance, but the judges's weren't always feelin' it. Check out which X Factor divas dropped the ball, and who dropped it like it's hot below!
Young Adults
As usual Jennel Garcia owned the stage, belting out ?the classic rock song "Proud Mary." Before she hit the stage we see her working with a dance coach to get her moves down, shaking the fringe and sliding across the floor like a true rock goddess. Much to Simon's delight a hint of Jennel's cute curls were back in the mix, and L.A. declared that her performance "smoked!"
At this point in the competition it's become obvious that Paige Thomas doesn't have the strongest voice in the competition, but what she lacks in vocals she makes up for in showmanship, all of her performances have had eye-poping visuals and her rendition of ?"Last Dance" by Donna Summer was no exception with pointy shoulder pads, red glitter and a whole host of back up dancers. The audience also got a glimpse of her story, finding out that Paige's mother ?(and singing inspiration) died on Christmas Eve when she was just 6 years old.
Demi gushed at the end of the show that she thought she had truly saved the best for last when Cece Frey took to the stage to cover "All By Myself," to mixed reviews. L.A. said she sang it really well, but Britney declared that she didn't get it at all and Simon seemed to think it would have been better if she was, in fact, by herself!
Over 25s
Tate Stevens performed country diva Shania Twain's heartfelt ballad "From this Moment," while we saw his wife backstage cheering him on. It was over-the-top sentimental, which is just right when it comes to being a diva, and the judges ate it up, with Demi saying "Ugh! It was so good!"
Vino Alan's mom and son Sky were flown out this week for a family reunion to boost his spirits, with L.A. saying he wanted him to sing "from love, not pain." He performed "Let's Stay Together" by rock diva Tina Turner, and while Simon felt that Vino needed "bigger" songs for his voice, the audience loved it.
Teens
Diamond White is a little diva in the making, and it was only appropriate that she go with a song from one of today's biggest divas- Beyonce! Diamond sang "Halo," and the judges approved, its obvious that at 13 Diamond already has some big star potential.
Raspy-voice Beatrice Miller revealed to audiences that this competition is important to her because her moms are both out of work right now. She went with Cyndi Lauper's romantic hit "Time After Time," and although The X Factor stylists insist on dressing Beatrice in ten layers of mismatched clothing every week, this week she looked slightly less zany than usual.
SInce it's his second time around, many people feel that Arin Ray is a shoe-in for winning the competition this season, but his performance of "Crazy for You" by Madonna didn't delight the judges. Simon said it was like "asking a cat to eat a tiger," and Demi declared that she was "bored."
This week's theme catered perfectly to the talents of demi-diva Carly Rose Sonenclar, who managed to not sink but swim with Celine Dion's Titanic-hit "My Heart Will Go On," and we got an inside look at how proud her dad Bob is of the effort she's put into the competition, regardless of winning or losing.
Groups
Lyric145 stretched the diva theme just a little, doing a mashup of "We Will Rock You" by Queen and Katy Perry's "E.T." L.A. felt that they had "lost their way" in the competition, but Lyric Da Queen was unfazed by this and laughed out loud!
It's not a night of divas if no one does Mariah Carey, and girl group Fifth Harmony took up the torch by performing "Hero." The girls all wore white, and switched up the singing order, with Lauren kicking off the tune.
Everyone's favorite beach bums Emblem3 took on "No One" by Alicia Keys, and the judges liked it a lot. We got some backstory on Drew, the band member not related to the brothers and how the band gave hima new purpose after dropping out of school.
