The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg have boarded the new Star Wars movies.
Details are scant at this point, so it's not entirely clear which movies they will be working on and how the labor is divided between them, but according to THR's source, the pair will write either Episode VIII or Episode IX.
Since Kasdan and Kinberg will also be producing the movies along with Kathleen Kennedy, it's entirely possible they'll be involved in the scripting of all three Episodes even though Episode VII is currently being written by Toy Story 3's Michael Arndt.
Kasdan wrote the screenplay for Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back and Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, so he's a Star Wars veteran.
Kinberg's no slouch as well. He wrote the X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men: Days of Future Past and the Sherlock Holmes screenplays so he's not out of his element when it comes to action and sci-fi scenes.
In case you missed it, Brad Bird and Colin Trevorrow are out of the running to direct Episode VII.
