Today Civil Society Group ?Aawaaz?, students of Punjab University, Dramebaaz Club and Yuva Dharti staged a protest from Rock Garden to Governor House, Haryana to demand justice for a young girl Jyoti who has been murdered by the MLA from Himachal Pradesh Ram Kumar Chaudhary and also to demand justice for a gang-raped on a moving bus in Delhi exactly a week ago, and to call for more serious punishment for sexual crimes. The protest was joined by large chunk of people who were raising slogans against the government for delay in punishing the rapists. Protesters then marched towards Haryana?s Governor house with a hope that the governor may pay heed to their voice but to no avail. ?Sunil Bansal & Harjit Singh Bhullar said that such crimes and criminals should be dealt strictly so that people with such criminal mindset should not dare to think about committing such a heinous act. Aawaaz demanded that MLA who was involved in the murder of Jyoti should be hanged or at least be given stricter punishment to set an example in society. There is a public anger among the students for the lathi charge being done on them by police at Delhi. ?Gaurav Goel, Advocate & Varun Giri demanded stern action against the rapists and said government?s negligent attitude would not help in stopping such doings in society. Girls should feel safe wherever they are and it is the duty fo the government to make them feel safe.?The team of Dramebaj club led by Sparsh and his team held a street play (nukad natak) to aware the public that the girls are not safe and immediate action shakl be taken to protect the girls. The public anger is such that some have demanded the immediate execution of the rapists. ?Mandeep the student of Punjab University said the government?s failure to gauge the mood of the people and its unwillingness to engage with demonstrators has sharpened the fury and frustration of a country that is seeking urgent change in laws and safety.
